Supply Chain Problems Delaying Some Books
At TCPL we have an entire team dedicated to finding, reviewing, buying, processing, and ultimately shelving new books and other print materials. Already in 2025, this team has put around 3,500 new items on shelves. Those materials include things like new releases, requests from patrons like you, replacements for older or damaged copies, and everything in between.
But a supply chain problem is affecting some publishers such as Macmillan and Hachette, which in turn has orders piling up with our primary book distributor. Recently, our distributor warned us that they will have to begin cancelling many backorders so that they can focus on getting new and in-demand titles. While the supply chain problems aren’t limited to one specific category, they are affecting titles for adults more than titles for children.
Our library staff is already working to source these books we (and you!) have been waiting for from other vendors on both a local and a national level. We are also exploring new partnerships with other distributors to help ensure we can get the books our community wants as quickly as possible.
We appreciate your patience as we work through these problems.
And remember, you can still request a book if you can’t find it in our collection using the Suggest a Title feature.
