TCPL Welcomes Back Volunteers in New Program Partner Initiative
Tompkins County Public Library is re-launching a way for volunteers to join the Library’s mission of serving the community. The new Program Partners initiative is an updated version of the Volunteer Program that was paused in September 2024.
Volunteer Program Partners will have opportunities to contribute to existing Library programs and needs such as maintaining the collection through adopt-a-shelf, shelf reading, or shelf fronting. Program Partners can also lend subject matter expertise as well as assist in special events and programs.
Collaborations already utilizing Program Partners include LEGO Family Build Night, Technology 1-on-1 sessions, Sit! Stay! Read! and Makerspace workshops.
"Our Program Partners for those who want to volunteer is a wonderful way for our community to connect with the Tompkins County Public Library!” said TCPL Interim Library Director Susan Currie. “This volunteer program encourages and supports local citizenship, promotes community values and provides great benefit to the library by enhancing the library's resources. Volunteers connect us to valuable information about local issues and initiatives so that the library can better meet the needs of the community."
It is important to note that volunteers cannot perform roles and duties of paid staff that are protected by collective bargaining agreements and civil service law.
