Fact into Fiction: A Writing Workshop
About this event:
It can seem intimidating to create a fictional world on paper: where do you begin? At the same time, common lore says, “Write what you know.” How can you do both—create a fictional world, characters, and plot, while drawing from personal experience, places, and relationships?
In this six-week fiction writing workshop, participants will discover how to mine their own lives for the beginnings, middles, and ends of stories. They will write, share and discuss their work, and brainstorm ideas together. They will learn how to follow words and images where they lead—sometimes into dark corners of the mind where memories and dreams lurk.
The workshop will build skills and a writing community, so participation in all six sessions is highly recommended.
Registration is required.
Susanna Drbal writes short stories and memoir, and is working on a novel set in a town that is very much like the one where she grew up. She has taught writing at the college level, and she is fascinated by other people’s stories and the way they choose to tell them.
