You Heard It At Storytime! : Baby Storytime

We had a huge group today and had a had a lot of fun! After our hello songs and rhymes, we read...

My Body by Jill McDonald

...and shared these to learn more about the different parts of our bodies:

Where Is Big Toe? from Storytime Secrets

Where is big toe? Where is big toe?
Here I am; here I am!
Wiggle, wiggle, big toe
Wiggle, wiggle, big toe
My big toe, my big toe.

Where is elbow…bendy, bendy elbow
Where is tummy…squishy, squashy tummy
Where are two eyes…winky blinky two eyes
Where are two hands…happy clappy two hands

Cheek, Chin from Jbrary

Cheek chin cheek chin cheek chin, nose
Cheek chin cheek chin cheek chin, toes
Cheek chin cheek chin, up baby goes!

A Fly Is On My Knee from Jbrary
Tune: Farmer in the Dell

A fly is on my knee, a fly is on my knee
High ho, just watch me blow
A fly is on my knee.

Repeat with arm, foot, belly

Next we read...

Jungle Gym by Jennifer Sattler which is a simple little book about things like up and down, over and under, etc.

....and shared these songs:

Elevator Song from Jbrary

Oh the city is great and the city is grand
There's a whole lot of people on a little piece of land
And we live way up on the 57th floor
And this is what we do when we go out the door.

We take the elevator up and the elevator down,
Take the elevator up, take the elevator down
Take the elevator up and the elevator down And we turn around.

Jack & Jill

Jack and Jill went up the hill
To fetch a pail of water
Jack fell down and broke his crown
And Jill came tumbling after
Up Jack got
And home did trot
As fast as he could caper
He went to bed
To mend his head
With vinegar and brown paper

Each week we learn a baby sign and this week we learned the sign for upstairs.

Early Literacy Tip

“Tune In involves a parent’s making a conscious effort to notice what a baby or child of focused on, then, when it’s appropriate, talking with the child about it…A child who receives consistent Tuning In is more inclined to stay engaged longer, to initiate communication and ultimately to learn more easily.”

-30 Million Words from Dana Suskin

Some puppet friends joined us for...

You Can Hear adapted from Storytime Katie's song
Tune: She’ll Be Coming Round the Mountain

You can hear the duck a-quacking with her beak, QUACK! QUACK!
You can hear the duck a-quacking with her beak, QUACK! QUACK!
You can hear the duck a-quacking with her beak, QUACK! QUACK!
You can hear the duck a-quacking with her beak, QUACK! QUACK!

(repeat with piggy oinking with his snout, mole digging with her claws, bird flying with his wings)

We finished up with some scarf fun and sang our goodbyes.  See you next week!
