This is a Library co-sponsored event.  Join Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tompkins County Farm to School staff and volunteers for a healthy and fun sensory movie experience. In partnership with the library, we are showing a children’s favorite movie, Ratatouille, and serving Ratatouille - a new school lunch menu item making an appearance in every school cafeteria in the county this September. Packed with flavorful farm fresh vegetables, this dish is sure to become a new family favorite! When children get to see, touch, taste and talk about the food we grow, they are more likely to try new fruits and vegetables, which can lead to improvements in diet quality, behavior, and educational performance. This school year, thanks to the coordinated procurement and collaborative menu planning of school food service directors in Dryden, Groton, Ithaca, Lansing, Newfield, New Roots and Trumansburg, over 25 different locally grown vegetables and fruits will play a starring role on the menu for over 11,000 K-12 students in Tompkins County. Each month a new, mouth-watering menu of recipes featuring farm fresh ingredients will be released. The September “Harvest of the Month” recipes are:

• Tomato and Cucumber Salad with NYS tomatoes and cucumbers (week of September 9)

• Ratatouille with NYS eggplant, summer squash, bell peppers and onions. Also there will be fresh plums and peaches! (week of September 23)
