Infinity in a Box
Avenue of the Friends, July-September

Boxes hold thingsthey both hide and protect the contents. Shadow boxes, on the other hand, show little worlds just as dollhouses do. Children have puppet theatres to present dramas with some characters as small as fingers. Set designers create mock-ups for scenes in boxes. Boxes both show and contain. Like an artist beginning a drawing, the edges of the piece and space inside are the first considerations when the creator begins to work. These boxes may also hold what a world can be: outer space, different worlds, or new versions of reality. Artists include Chris Coronel, Ariel Bullion Ecklund, Carla Elizabeth, Jim Garmhausen, Stephan Petrella, Gary Rith, Maude Rith, Laura Rowley, Leeny Sack, Werner Sun, Emily Millen Walsh. Curated by Maude Rith. Made possible (in part or in full) with funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, administered by the Community Arts Partnership.

Space for Recovery
North Reading Room, July-August
Clients from Cayuga Addiction Recovery Services have created works in their interpretation of Space. Throughout the past year, CARS has seen many clients come and go through the outpatient and residential programs in Ithaca and Trumansburg, NY. Some clients were willing to share their ideas and stories through their artwork. The only information they were told was the theme of the art show was “space." These works are what the clients have createdsome have chosen to share their names, and some wished to remain anonymous. Thank you to all who have shared their art with the Ithaca community. We wish them all the best in their journey to a life of recovery. Curated by Monica Weimer, Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist.

234 Paintings
