Program Description

About this event:

Memoirs like The Prince of Los Cocuyos can act as both mirrors and windows for us to see representations of ourselves, as well as to consider many outlooks and perspectives. As National Coming Out Day approaches during this 50th anniversary year of the Stonewall Riots, participate in an exploration of books with multidimensional, nuanced characters who are more than only their sexual identities. We'll discuss ways we tell our own stories, and the power of books and media to contribute to our making meaning of our families, communities and identities.

Luca Maurer is the founding director of Ithaca College’s Center for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Education, Outreach and Services, and teaches in the Sociology Department. He believes libraries are fundamental to justice and freedom, and serves as a TCPL trustee and 2019 Community Read Ambassador.
