Program Description

About this event:

It's robot racing time!

TCPL is inviting youth 8+, Teens, and families to a monthly robot race in the Makerspace! Each month participants will be challenged to program and tune a robot car to achieve the fastest time on the track. A new track will be available at each event to test your coding skills on! The robots use two sensors to detect walls and navigate around the course. TCPL will provide three kinds of robots:

  • Arduino Nano Racers: These cars use Arduino Nano, two standard plastic geared dc motors, and IR  sensors. The languages used to write scripts for these cars include C++ and Scratch.
  • Seeed Studio Racers: These Cars use the Seeduino Xiao, N20 dc motors, and two IR sensors to detect walls. These cars are much faster than the Arduino Nano Racers and only use the C++ language.
  • Experimental: Prototype robot cars that use various microcontrollers, electric motors, servos, and arrays of IR sensors.

No coding or robotics experience required, TCPL will provide staff/volunteer-led instructions and tutorials on coding/robotics. The other races will occur on 5/18 and 6/1.

This is an open-hour event and robot cars will be given out to borrow on a first-come-first-serve basis. If you would like to bring a robot or learn how to make your own please contact Joah Tang at jtang@tcpl.org for details.
