Program Description

About this event:

Join us for a demonstration with Adam Perl on how to create a crossword puzzle. Whether you're a crossword junkie or a newbie, learning how these puzzles are constructed will help you become more adept. Learn how to choose a theme, design a grid, write clues (and answers!), fill in the corners, and avoid trite language, obscure vocabulary, and jargon. Immerse yourself in words and spatial challenges at this program leading up to the Seventh Annual Finger Lakes Crossword Competition!

Adam Perl is a Crossword Constructor from 1998-present with 30 puzzles published in the NY Times.  He also was the owner of Pastimes from 1979 to 2018 and is now retired.  He was  a singer with the Cayuga Vocal Ensemble and is currently a Choral Director with the Savage Club of Ithaca.    He is the proud parent of three children and triplet grandchildren.

The Finger Lakes Crossword Competition is an annual fundraiser for Tompkins Learning Partners, which provides Adult Basic Education and English as a Second Language classes. TCPL is this year's Literacy Partner.
