About this event:
Narrative poems can be a great place to create memoir, especially when our lives--personally and/or collectively--have taken a spiritual, political, and/or psychological "turn" for which the "turn" in a poem can provide an intriguing metaphor! Since--1) COVID, 2) exacerbations in climate change, and 3) threats to our democracy--many of us are experiencing "turns" in our own personal lives--not necessarily all negative. For some of us, the disasters are experienced as wake-up calls. Sometimes gratitude for gifts we may have "missed" in the past and bouts of depression co-exist. Poetry is such a marvelous vehicle for the exploration of contradiction.
Local poet, educational philosopher, and creative writing teacher, Barbara Regenspan, is offering a two-session, in-person generative workshop in which participants will briefly examine contemporary published poems for the specific craft inspiration they might model for our own individual half-hour writing period to follow such examination. Voluntary sharing of our work will follow.
