Program Description

About this event:

Community Science Institute (CSI) is excited to announce our upcoming Data Jam event hosted at Tompkins County Public Library. At this event, we will facilitate team exploration of water quality questions using CSI's water quality database. Together, attendees will work in teams to ask and answer their own questions about water quality in the Cayuga Lake Watershed and beyond! At the end of the event, teams will come together to share their findings with the rest of the attendees. CSI is a local environmental nonprofit organization whose mission is to empower community members to protect water through volunteer stream and lake monitoring. The data collected by volunteers in our four water quality monitoring partnerships is stored in our free, online database. This event will give community members with questions such as "How good is the water quality in Six Mile Creek?" or "Where on Cayuga Lake do Harmful Algal Blooms occur most frequently?" an opportunity to delve into the data and answer those questions themselves. CSI staff will be close at hand to guide teams through our database and point them in the direction of the answers they are interested in.

Sign up and bring your water quality questions with you, and we can embark on a journey of data exploration together!
