Finger Lakes Library System Trustee
"I value libraries as community hubs and find it meaningful to work with others to support libraries that provide access to information, literacy, and lifelong learning opportunities.
Having previously served on the Ulysses Philomathic Library board and my current service on the board of the Finger Lakes Library System, I have knowledge of open meetings law, proper financial review, and the role that an active board plays in supporting its library. I care deeply about the library’s role as a social safety net for its community, am a firm believer in the freedom to read, and I am a library card holder and frequent user of library services.
Civic engagement comes in different forms: not only voting or attending town hall or school board meetings but also being involved in community institutions as a form of civic engagement, such as membership in community organizations, volunteering, and community service. My passion for libraries stems from a lifetime of experiences – from supporting my own learning goals in my early career, to helping raise my children and connect with my friends and neighbors – and I believe that libraries are essential lifelines within our communities."
