Program Description

About this event:

This training for local journalists, including student journalists, will teach members of the media how to report on suicide and mental health responsibly, with particular focus on how the media can help prevent suicides and better educate the public on matters pertaining to mental health. Lee-Ellen Marvin from Suicide Prevention and Crisis Services will speak about how media professionals are able to report on these topics more sensitively, and Scott MacLeod from the Sophie Fund will share his experiences. This event is part of a larger multi-media collaboration between WRFI, Ithaca College's Park Scholars Program, the Ithaca Voice, and the Cornell Daily Sun about loneliness on college campuses. Engaged Cornell and the Sophie Fund are funding this collaboration.
