Program Description

About this event:

Build a sculpture meant to move! Join educators from the Johnson Museum to create mini shoebox-sized parade floats.

Inspired by the 2022 theme of the Ithaca Festival Parade, “Together Again,” our floats will form a community-made mini parade. Join us to celebrate the opportunity to create art together again!

All supplies for the free workshop will be provided, including options for the base of your float, and materials for building on top, including cardboard, recyclables, fabric, and more. We welcome you to bring along any other materials you would like to incorporate into your personal float.

Children of all ages and their families are invited to drop in to this workshop. We will have activity options for a wide range of ages—older children can use this program as a chance to experiment with basic engineering and construction ideas, while younger participants will be given the chance to imaginatively play with materials and artmaking supplies.
