Family Storytime: FOOD!

Family Storytime: FOOD!

Food...it's one of my favorite subjects! I'll use it at Thanksgiving time most years, but who can limit a food theme to just once a year?? (Not me, apparently :) Hah! Let's see what we got into today on the subject of food......
Here are the books:

Cupcake by Charise Mericle Harper

Lunch by Denise Fleming

Little Pea by Amy Krouse Rosenthal; Ills. by Jen Corace

A Mouse in the Marmalade by Jonathan Emmett; Ills. by Caroline Jayne Church (Office ref pop-up book)

Four books today! Woot-woot! I love Cupcake! This book is so silly and reaffirming and pretty and yummy looking! Lots of concepts for such a little book ; ) Take this book home sometime and read all the little side comments. I can't really do that at storytime - it makes the book a bit too long. But they are very pun-ny, and very sweet :)

Lunch, by Denise Fleming is one of those books that just begs for a felt board to go with it! That's how we learned just how much little mouse could stuff into his little self when hungry. Do you have a hungry mouse like that at home?? I like it because it talks about colors, and has positive food-related encouragement for those picky eaters who aren't like our little mouse!

Little Pea is another long-time favorite of mine. And another book that's full of horrible puns :) You may find references to characteristics of your own children in here. Again, a fun, light-hearted book for picky eaters.

I like to slip in pop-up and lift-the-flap books whenever I can, and A Mouse in the Marmalade is a good choice when you want to gross your child out ; ) Hey - we had three books about yummy and healthy food, it seemed like a good counterpart to all that good taste!

Today we got crazy and jumped in our soup with Laurie Berkner!

(Eewww!)

I Feel Crazy (So I Jump in My Soup) by Laurie Berkner

I feel crazy so I jump in my soup,

I feel crazy so I jump in my soup,

I feel crazy so I jump in my soup….

I jump, jump, jump, jump in my soup!

I feel crazy so I swim in my soup,

I feel crazy so I swim in my soup,

I feel crazy so I swim in my soup,

I swim around in my soup!

I feel crazy so I gallop in my soup,

I feel crazy so I gallop in my soup,

I feel crazy so I gallop in my soup,

I gallop around in my soup

I feel crazy so I sit in my soup!!

I feel crazy so I sit in my soup!!

I feel crazy so I sit in my soup!!

I sit right down in my soup!

Find the song on this CD: Victor Vito. We also got the whole family involved with taking care of the baby at dinnertime:

SITTIN’ IN A HIGH CHAIR

(To the tune of Shortnin’ Bread)

*SITTIN’ IN A HIGH CHAIR,

BIG CHAIR, MY CHAIR,

SITTIN IN A HIGH CHAIR,

BANG MY SPOON!

SITTIN IN A HIGH CHAIR,

BIG CHAIR, MY CHAIR,

SITTIN’ IN A HIGH CHAIR,

FEED ME SOON!

Bring on a plate, bring on a cup

Papa gonna fill this baby up!

Bring on bananas, bring on the bread

Mama gonna get this baby fed!

*

Bring on the carrots, bring on the peas,

Mama come serve this baby please!

Bring on the pancakes, stacked in a pile

Papa gonna make this baby smile.

*

Bring on a napkin, bring on a sponge,

clean me up cause I’m all done!

Sound like dinnertime at your house by any chance? I remember those days...; )

Time to get back to work on next week's subject: pets! But don't forget the booklist at the end!

See you next time,

Miss Kelly
