Other prizes being raffled include gift certificates to the Bookery, Purity Ice Cream and Juna’s Café.

Visual Culture at IHS

VISUAL CULTURE at IHS - the Annual IHS Student Art Exhibit will be displayed at Tompkins County Public Library during June, 2007. An opening reception will be held in the Borg Warner Community Room at 4 p.m. on Friday, June 8.

Tompkins County Public Library is delighted to be able to offer Ithaca High School a prominent location to exhibit some of the art work which their students have created during the school year 2006-07. The library will showcase the art during the month of June.

The art students want to talk about what they see happening through their art; drawings, paintings, mixed media, prints and photographs. Their images are personal portraits and perspectives of their school, their friends, their lives. Text and image, symbolism, faces and places are presented as a visual dialogue of these young artists’ lives.

Support from the ICSD and a grant from the Fine Arts Booster Group have made the mounting of this show possible.

For further information about the work please contact Carol Spence at 274-2239 or cspence@icsd.k12.ny.us.

1 p.m. – 2:15 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.- 3:45 p.m.

The Ithaca Festival has teamed up with local organization Ithaca-Made Movies to present classic Wharton Studio silent films. A Saturday afternoon event is planned for those who would like to learn more about Ithaca’s moviemaking history. View the flyer.

A radio script by Jack Foley “A Sonnet, with Harry Fox” will be featured using movie clips of Harry Fox selected from the Beatrice Fairfax series. Fox will be heard singing a song entitled “I’m Always Chasing Rainbows.”

Eric Stedman from the Serial Squadron, a group dedicated to the preservation and restoration of the lost form of the movie serial, will speak about the work done on the Beatrice Fairfax Series that he has prepared for the evening event.

A locally produced music video “Hollywood On Cayuga” will be shown along with several other music videos which feature Pearl White and Irene Castle.

Two episodes of the 1916 Ithaca-made serial film BEATRICE FAIRFAX will have a free screening on Saturday, June 2, 2007 at 8:00 pm at the historic State Theater in downtown Ithaca, as part of the 30th Annual Ithaca Festival. View the flyer.

“The State Theater is Ithaca’s only existing original movie house,” said Ithaca Festival Executive Director Vicki Kysar. “and it is the perfect setting to see the extraordinary movies made in Ithaca, the way audiences might have seen them
in 1916!”

Live music for the evening event will be provided by world-renowned silent film keyboard accompanist Donald Sosin, and Joanna Seaton will sing the 1915 hit “Beatrice Fairfax, Tell Me What To Do.”

So don’t miss these two free Ithaca Festival 2007 events on Saturday June 2nd. This years festival theme is reflection and Ithaca Silent films will provide just such a reflection. Refreshments will be provided by co-sponsors Ithaca Bakery and Napoli Pizzeria at the afternoon events.
