Library Collects Food for Our Neighbors
December 2002
by Pat White, Adult Services Librarian
Tompkins County Public Library employees are collecting canned and other non-perishable food items for the Tompkins County Food Distribution Network through December 23rd. Library patrons are invited to bring non-perishable food items with them when they visit the library. The collection box is near the greeter's desk in the front of the library.
Last year the Tompkins County Food Distribution Network provided over 1.2 million pounds of food to our county's needy residents. Its 14 food pantries serve approximately 2,220 families each month. While demand is up ten percent this year, the level of government support for the food pantries has been reduced or is in jeopardy. More than ever, our donations of non-perishable food items are needed if the TC Food Distribution Network is to help our needy neighbors this winter.
