“Haven’t We Met Before?” - Tompkins County Public Library to Open Art Exhibit
The primary focus of the exhibition is salvaging and recycling in Ithaca and Tompkins County seen through the eyes of local artists. The visual imagery includes sculpture, furniture, photographs, videos, posters and models.
The philosophy of recycling thrives in our community not only through city and county agencies, but also in the shops and studios of many gifted artists and craftspeople. This exhibition focuses on some of the more hidden creators, working in a variety of locations around Tompkins County and features the work of Diane Cohen, Paul Colucci, Alice Gant, Kenny Lang, Andrew Thornheer, John Fuchs, and curators Victoria Romanoff and Sarah Adams. They are all avid bricoleurs who take leftovers, trash, surpluses and other forlorn resources and configure them back into new, usable objects – some functional, others beautiful to look at - all worthy of our attention.
You are invited to join the artists at the opening reception on Thursday October 4 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm in the Borg Warner Room at the library. The exhibit will be on display October 1 through December 30, 2007.
