Award-Winning Poet and Writer Luis Francia to Speak
Award-winning poet, author and teacher Luis H. Francia will give a presentation at the Tompkins County Public Library, Saturday, October 13, 2007 at 11:00 AM in the Ezra Cornell Reading Room.
Francia, a member of the faculty of New York University’s Asian/Pacific/American Studies Institute, will present “Longing and Belonging: The Idea of Home in Asian American Literature” in conjunction with the 2007 Community Read of Nadine Gordimer’s The Pickup.
“Longing and Belonging. . .” focuses on themes of identity, the search for home and heritage. The lecture is free and open to the public and is made possible through support from the New York State Council form the Humanities’ Speakers in the Humanities program.
Francia has taught at Sarah Lawrence College and the University of Hawaii in Honolulu. He serves as the co-chair of the Board of Trustees of the Asian American Writers Workshop and has edited and co-edited multiple books.
The New York Council for Humanities is a private, not-for-profit organization working to ensure the presence of humanities in the cultural life of New York State.
