It has some fresh paint, now the “Little Room” in the youth services department at the Tompkins County Public Library needs a fresh, new name!

Local artist Jane Dennis spent weeks painting the ever-popular “little room,” enlivening the once solid-colored space by adding colorful flowers, a starry sky and an assortment of animals.

“The Little Room was always a popular space, but now it is just an incredible draw”, said Bonnie Wojnowski, head of the youth services department.

With its increased popularity, however, the approximately 5 foot by 6 foot “Little Room”, needs a more suitable name. TCPL invites all area children, aged eight and under, to help us pick out a name for the “Little Room” by filling out a naming form in the youth services department or online between August 15 and September 15, 2007.

Library staff and Dennis will select their favorite names from those submitted, and will vote on the room’s new name. Those responsible for the top ten name ideas will be invited to a September 26 “Little Room” Reception, featuring little food, little stories and the unveiling of the new name, which will be painted on the entrance to the room by Dennis. Prizes will be awarded for the top three name ideas!

Painting of the “Little Room” was made possible by the Tompkins County Library Foundation through a grant from the Community Arts Partnership.
