Library to Change Borrowing Rules

In order to improve and increase the availability of library materials at the Tompkins County Public Library, new rules on loan limits will go into effect on May 15, 2006.

The changes are designed to allow more people access to the library’s collection of new books, videos, DVDs and music CDs.

Users will be able to have up to 20 items checked out at any one time. The previous limit was 25.

New books will remain in “New Book” status for 12 months and will not be inter-library loaned to other libraries during that time.

No renewals will be allowed on New Books or DVDs.

Limits on the quantity of items by format have been changed to the following:

Audio books on CD - Limit per card - 2
Audio books on Cassette - Limit per card - 2
DVDs - Limit per card - 2
DVDs-instructional - Limit per card - 2


Videos - Limit per card - 5
Videos-instructional - Limit per card - 5
Pamphlets - Limit per card - 5

Music CDs - Limit per card - 10
New Books - Limit per card - 10
Magazines - Limit per card - 10
Books - Limit per card - 20
