Sunday Hours at Library to End February 12
The Tompkins County Public Library will re-open on Sundays, starting on January 8, from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. due to a grant from NYS Assemblywoman Barbara Lifton. Since 1995, Sunday hours have been funded with a combination of private donations and state grants.
However, the NYS funding is sufficient for only six Sundays. Sunday, February 12th will be the last day of Sunday hours in 2006 unless the February 7th funding referendum is approved by voters.
Passage of the funding referendum ensures that Sunday hours will become a regular part of our operating hours, no longer at risk of being eliminated. That is one of two tangible components of the funding referendum that voters are being asked to approve: more hours of operation, and more books and materials to bolster our depleted collections.
