Youth Services Teen Librarian I
Full-time, permanent

The Tompkins County Public Library is seeking a full-time Librarian I for Teen services in the Youth Services Department.

Duties will include working cooperatively with Youth Services staff on all aspects of collection development including the selection and management of children’s fiction, nonfiction, and young adult fiction, providing friendly and exceptional reference and reader services to library resources in all formats to youth and parents, and public programming as needed.Occasional hours in Adult Services as needed.

The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to customer service, be able to work effectively as part of a team, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to prepare statistical data and/or budgets, demonstrate facility with online media, services and software, and  develop and deliver programming and outreach services. A thorough knowledge of children’s and young adult literature and an understanding of the stages of children’s development are essential.

The position is available immediately; 35 hours per week, some evenings and Saturday will be required. Starting salary $23.37 per hour, excellent benefits.

Minimum qualifications: Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science and eligibility for a New York State Professional Librarian Certificate.
