The Campaign for the New Library
Report - February 2001
On November 20th, 2000, the doors to the new Tompkins County Public Library opened for the first time. This milestone capped six years of planning and an eighteen-month campaign orchestrated by the Library Foundation. We encourage you to take a closer look at this exciting and rewarding process.

How Funds Were Used

$500,000 in resources including new books, CDs, videos and periodicals.

$200,000 for technology in the new Library. 35 public computers for adults and 8 for children, two new self check-out stations and state of the art systems for searching the Library's holdings and resources

$250,000 for the new Health Information Center, available to help patrons research their health, well-being and nutrition questions with a dedicated professional librarian on staff to assist those who wish to have guidance in their research

$93,000 for new furnishings. The new library is rich in beautiful and comfortable furnishings. Our youngest patrons now have properly sized chairs and tables in the Thaler/Howell Youth Services department and programming room. Parents and grandparents can rock the little ones in our new rocking chairs. Those seeking welcoming seats with tables and personal light fixtures can find all in the Ezra Cornell and North Reading Rooms.

$30,000 for the coordination of Library programming.

$15,000 for the restoration of the Ezra Cornell portrait.

$4,000 for two motorized cart for those Library patrons requiring assistance with mobility.

Additional funds were used to further improve the Library's collection and to offer additional programming.
